When was the last time you remember a student engaged in open political or civic discussions? Because students, who are actively engaged and interested in politics or civic institutions, are very rare. I’d know after all, as a student myself.
Civic engagement is at record lows in our schools. A report from Ball State University showed that about nine percent being very interested in politics while 14 percent had no interest in Politics at all.
Our countries greatest strength is the ability for ordinary people to vote, and the people who grow up our communities seem to care less and less about this system. The students in our schools today are the future of voting, and we can’t let that go down the drain. In times like these where some of our most important election periods take place, the engagement of youth in political discussions has never been more important. I intend to lay out what we as students and learners can do to be more involved in politics, and what adults can to to assist us on our path to become responsible voters and adults.
